My restless little boy
I don't want to say we are back to Rylan the Ferocious but possibly Rylan the Restless. Wednesday seems to be the changing point, sometime between nap and bedtime my sweet little boy turned crazy restless. He is into everything and just can't seem to get settled with anything - eating, sleeping, playing, etc. He didn't nap yesterday at all (LONG afternoon to say the least!) There were some major tears because I wouldn't give him cherries on demand and let him watch endless hours of Bubble Guppies - horrible mom I know! He went to bed like a champ but was up at 1:45am until almost 4:00 - wanting water, asking to snuggle Daddy, needing one more song. He managed to take all the bedding off his bed, move the bottom portion of his bookshelf as the top is strapped to the wall, unplug his monitor and then proceeded to kick the door yelling that he was ready to get up. He is sound asleep now as I type this and hopefully will reset to my sweet little guy during nap time. I pray that he finds his love for sleep and his bed again as Eric and I are overwhelmed and stressed out by the change. I know his little brain is growing at an incredibly fast pace and that is probably coursing a lot of the restlessness but man little guy we need some rest around here!

A few new things....
So the big boy bed adjustment is just that. . . an adjustment! I can't say its going bad because he takes a two hour nap and sleeps through the night. It is certainly continuing to be a struggle to get him down but once down he does amazing! Yesterday he crashed out within thirty minutes for nap/bedtime with no struggles. Today a completely different story, see the picture of where he finally crashed for his nap!! We will get this and it will be a thing of the past! It has been less than two weeks, that is what Eric and I keep reminding ourselves.
Monkers - his new build a bear buddy is his absolute best friend this week! He reads to him, rocks him, feeds him, pushes him in the cart. It is so cute to watch how quickly he has taken to this little guy and how funny he is with him. He told me today, "get him mommy, he is crying, hurry up!" He comes up with the funniest things. He was also cracking me up this morning as when Eric left he kissed me and Ry thought that was so funny. He is one funny boy!

Some of his favorite sayings lately -
"what is that sound?"
" I want something different" as he searches everywhere in the house for some non-toy gadget like item that I might let him play with. Yesterday it was wheels off a small plastic cart that he insisted were motors with gasoline and today he carried two locks around and a small key. He also attempted to run with a meat thermometer - seriously! If it resembles metal or a tool, he is way interested!
"whatcha doing Mommy?"
"it be ok, it be fine, it be alright"
Painting Ocean Rocks
Ry filled a bucket with rocks from the ocean while in Carlsbad and we finally got around to pinging them today. I had high hopes of making some ladybugs, etc. Ry wasn't interested.......to him the more colors the more fun!!!

Happy Birthday Grandma & Grandpa Emerson!!!
We had a fun afternoon/evening celebrating Grandma & Grandpa Emerson's birthday a little early with them. Ry LOVED birthdays, candles, and of course balloons (boons as he calls them!!) Ry is so funny whenever Grandma and Grandpa come over he can't wait for 2 things.....Grandma's water bottle as he loves drinking from it and sharing with her and gummy worms!! Grandpa Jim always has a few in his pocket for Ry Ry. It reminds me of my Grandpa when I was little as he always had gum. You would walk in the living room and sometimes it would start flying at you if he knew you were coming. I told Grandpa Jim tonight he better not ever come over without gummy worms. :)

Build a Bear Workshop
What a fun afternoon. As soon as Ry woke up we left for the mall. We told him we have been so incredibly proud of him sleeping in his big boy bed all week that he was going to get to make a bear at Build a Bear. It actually ended up being a monkey but nonetheless he had a blast! He chose his monkey, stuffed it, put the little heart inside and then Eric and I recorded ourselves saying we loved him in the monkey. We had so much fun and we are pretty sure Ry and Monkers (that is his monkeys name) will be best buds! It was so cute when we got home he took monkey down to his room to show him where he would be sleeping.

Changes - Big Boy Bed
We discovered while in Carslbad that Ry no longer could sleep in his pack and play. After a few days/nights of driving around for naps and bedtime we decided to invest in a KidCo tent (thanks to a good friend for the recomendation.) It was a lifesaver as we didn't know what else to do.....he wouldn't lie down with us, wouldn't stay in the pack and play and was into everything if we held the door closed. This tent has a big air mattress and was perfect....it will be joining us in MN at the end of August for sure! We got home Saturday night and before I could close Ry's door he was out of his crib and behind me, telling me, "I get out, I out!" And so it began.....
He has made HUGE progress since then, is sleeping in a queen size bed with railings and is doing amazing for such a short time. We did have to remove EVERYTHING except the bed!!! We are hoping that by the weekend we can introduce a dresser and slowly get furniture back in there. Here are some pictures as we painted his new room before vacation knowing I had time over the summer (little did we know he would be in it so soon.......) We are decorating it with space/planets as Eric's mom framed two drawings he did as a kid of rockets that are perfect and so much fun! Ry calls it his star room and was very excited when we hung his planet mobile; the one decoration he has as he can't dismantle it! HA!!!!!!

Sea World Take Two
We spent our last day of vacation at Sea World again. This time we were there when the gates opened and beat a lot of the lines. Ry wanted to ride more rides at Elmo's World and Eric wanted to ride the new roller coaster. We had a blast, it was the perfect ending to a great week.
Sharkie biting me, this shark bites anything and everything.
We watched Shamu from below, Ry thought it was way cool.
Playing in Elmo's World
About to go way up on the sky tower to see all of Sea World and Mission Bay
How Ry saw a lot of Sea World - thanks Eric for being a trooper!
We loved watching the Blue Horizons show.....Ry was astounded by the people swimming with the dolphins and kept asking how they do that!

The many faces of Rylan. . .
We had fun taking silly pictures of Rylan while waiting for our pizza. We found a cute pizza restaurant called Pizza Port, it was always a hopping place. It was filled with families and kids could be kids there. They also had delicious pizza and freshly brewed beer.
African Safari Park
I hadn't heard much about this zoo but we had planned to go to the beach on the 4th of July and it was pretty windy and cooler so we decided to check out this zoo. We were so glad we did as it was great, we liked it better than the San Diego Zoo. They had gorillas and the mommy had just had a baby one months ago. They aslo had a African safari ride that took you through tons of animals and they were so close up. We saw baby giraffes, baby zebras and so many other cool animals. I think Ry and Eric would both say the lion was their favorite. Ry also fed the ducks from his own little hand for the first time and couldn't stop talking about how the ducks were, "so nice, they no bite me, they ok, they so nice!" He was so proud of himself!
